The Sculptra Guide
A little more collagen. Still beautifully you.
Sculptra® helps your skin build its own collagen over time, for a gradual, natural-looking improvement.
Your collagen. Your own pace.
What Is Sculptra?
Collagen is a protein that helps give skin structure and support. As we age, we make less of it.
Sculptra is an injectable treatment made with poly-L-lactic acid, or PLLA. It helps stimulate collagen production, so improvements develop gradually rather than all at once.
Sculptra is FDA-approved for certain facial wrinkles, including fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks, in eligible patients.
Your provider will explain which areas are appropriate for you and whether any proposed use is off-label. Results vary.
Sculptra may help improve:
- Fine lines and wrinkles in the cheeks
- Loss of facial fullness in suitable treatment areas
- Skin firmness and overall skin quality
- A refreshed appearance that develops gradually
Your provider will recommend an individualized plan based on your anatomy, goals, and medical history.
Good things take a little time.
01 · Start with a conversation.
We discuss your goals, review your health history, and assess your skin and facial structure. Together, we decide whether Sculptra fits your needs.
02 · Build your plan.
Most patients need a series of treatments. An average plan is about three sessions over a few months, but the number of sessions and vials is individual.
03 · Let collagen develop.
Changes may begin within weeks and continue over the following months. Results can last up to two years, though timing and longevity vary.

Fullness immediately after treatment can come from fluid and swelling. It is not your final result.
Is Sculptra right for you?

Treatment requires an individual assessment. Together, we’ll decide whether Sculptra fits your needs and talk through your options.
Understand the risks.
Common side effects include swelling, tenderness, redness, pain, bruising, bleeding, itching, and lumps. Firm bumps or nodules can appear later. Rarely, injection into a blood vessel can cause skin damage, vision loss, or stroke.
Seek immediate medical attention for vision changes or stroke symptoms. Contact your provider urgently for unusual or severe pain, or skin that turns white, gray, or blue near the treatment area.
After your appointment
Your provider will give you personalized instructions. General guidance may include:
- Use cold packs as directed for swelling
- Follow the recommended facial massage routine exactly as instructed
- Avoid strenuous exercise and excessive heat for the first 24 hours
- Stay hydrated and avoid pressing on treated areas
- Follow a high protein diet
If anything feels unusual or concerning, contact your provider.
Cost depends on the number of sessions and vials recommended for your plan. We’ll give you clear pricing after an individual consultation.
Both are injectable treatments. Hyaluronic acid fillers mainly add volume directly, while Sculptra works by stimulating collagen over time. Sculptra cannot be dissolved with the enzyme used for hyaluronic acid filler, so careful planning matters.
Comfort varies. Your provider may use topical numbing and will explain each step. Most patients describe temporary pressure, pinching, or tenderness rather than significant pain.
Many patients return to normal activities quickly, but swelling, tenderness, redness, bruising, or itching can occur. Your provider will give you specific activity and massage instructions.
Sculptra may not be appropriate if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have an active skin infection, have certain immune or bleeding conditions, or have a history of severe allergies or abnormal scarring. Your provider will review your medical history and current medications before recommending treatment.
